Grease stains, dust, and streaks on the screen are things that significantly impair the viewing experience on a TV. Below, TECHBOOK explains how to clean your TV properly and also what you shouldn’t do to avoid damaging the screen.
You clean your home regularly. But what about the TV? You shouldn’t forget it. On the one hand, dust and dirt can impair the picture, and on the other hand, dirt can get inside the appliance in the long term through the ventilation slots and openings on the back. The consequence is that its service life is reduced. Under certain circumstances, this can even cause short circuits on the circuit boards. Cleaning the TV regularly, therefore, extends its service life. TECHBOOK explains what you should bear in mind.
Overview
Switch off the TV before cleaning
Before you start cleaning the TV, it should be switched off completely. It is best to disconnect the TV from the power supply. Has the set just been in use? Then, wait until it has cooled down to room temperature.
Speaking of liquid: When cleaning the TV with a damp cloth, it should never be too wet. Instead, it should only be slightly damp. If you also use a special screen cleaner, which can be useful but is not always necessary, you should not spray it directly onto the TV but onto a cloth or towel instead.
These measures are basically intended to protect the device from moisture. If too much moisture penetrates the appliance, there is a risk of a short circuit when it is switched on. So, make absolutely sure that no liquid penetrates the housing anywhere.
Incidentally, the remote control can also benefit from regular cleaning. TECHBOOK has some tips.
Dry cleaning as permanent care
If you want to keep your TV dust-free in the long term, you should dry clean it once a week. This means without moisture and only with a dust cloth. Fine microfiber cloths are suitable for cleaning the TV. A brush is ideal for the small gap between the display and frame and for smaller corners. This can also be used to clean the connections on the back. A vacuum cleaner with a suitable attachment can also help, but should only be used with caution.
Alternatively, you can use compressed air sprays to remove dust from the screen. However, use them with caution to avoid pushing dust inside the device. Compressed air sprays are not suitable for cleaning connections, openings, and speakers.

How do you remove large soiling from the TV?
Significant soiling, such as grease stains or streaks, is best removed with a suitable cleaner. As mentioned, spraying the liquid onto a cloth is best. Also, have a second cloth ready so that you can wipe the screen dry again afterward.
Avoid household remedies such as citric acid or vinegar at all costs. These are often useful helpers elsewhere but are harmful to the screen. You should also be careful with chemical cleaning agents other than those specifically intended for screen care. Check that they do not contain alcohol, acetone, or abrasive particles.
