The well-known series from the 70s and 80s, “Little House on the Prairie,” is getting a reboot on Netflix. The streaming service has now confirmed this.
An entire generation of television viewers has followed the stories of the Ingalls family in the American West of the 19th century with great excitement. Moreover, their adventures can still be seen today in the series Little House on the Prairie in reruns on linear TV or as a stream. A total of 204 episodes spread over nine seasons were produced between 1974 and 1983. The series is now considered a cult and still has many fans. Netflix has a real surprise in store for them: a new edition of Our Little Farm is to be created for the platform.
“Little House on the Prairie” Is Being Re-Adapted for Netflix
As the US industry magazine Variety reports, the main focus is on a new adaptation of the semi-biographical book series of the same name by Laura Ingalls Wilder. This was already the basis for the original series, with many creative liberties being taken for its realization.
According to the report, Netflix has now given the green light to a new production of the series. There are currently no details on the cast, scope, or start date. Nevertheless, the first crew members behind the scenes have already been announced.
Rebecca Sonnenshine will take the creative reins as the showrunner and drive the project forward. Sonnenshine has previously worked on successful shows such as Vampire Diaries and The Boys. She will also act as executive producer alongside others. Trip Friendly’s involvement in a producing role is also worth mentioning. He is the son of Ed Friendly, who once helped get the original series off the ground.

“Little House on the Prairie” Is Still Very Popular
The exact plot points are not yet known. Officially, the new project is described in part as a “hopeful family drama” and an “epic tale of survival.” In addition, Our Little Farm is said to help tell the story of the birth of the modern American West.
The new Little House on the Prairie series will have to live up to high expectations. The original film adaptation of the stories about the Ingalls family won several awards and is still extremely popular today. The Nielsen company registered 13.25 billion streaming minutes for the old Our Little Farm series in 2024 alone, making it one of the most-watched older series ever. And that more than 40 years after its production ended.
