Hardly a month goes by without the announcement of a new spin-off for a movie or series. Another spin-off of “The Big Bang Theory” is currently being planned. The first stars are now being talked about.

TECHBOOK editor Marlene Polywka is rightly annoyed by the many series spin-offs. There are already a lot of them, and the number is growing. However, what may initially sound like a declaration of creative bankruptcy can turn out to be a stroke of luck in individual cases. It remains to be seen whether this will apply to the new spin-off of The Big Bang Theory, currently being considered. However, fans are likely to be highly interested in the project. This is particularly so because the first actor names for the project have started circulating.

“The Big Bang Theory” to get a third spin-off

The Big Bang Theory only came to an end in 2019. This was after twelve seasons and 279 episodes (a record in the sitcom genre). The series, centered on a group of science nerds and their friends, became an international sensation. It earned numerous awards and high ratings. And who could ever forget the iconic exclamation “Bazinga!” from Dr. Sheldon Cooper (Jim Parsons)?

The franchise continues to see significant activity years after the original series concluded. Even before the end of Big Bang, the first spin-off, Young Sheldon, about the genius’ younger years, was launched. This ends with the current seventh season. But there is more to come for fans. While Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is soon to be released as a spin-off, another series within the narrative universe is said to be in the works, according to Variety.

Unlike Young Sheldon and Georgie & Mandy, which are all set long before the events of the main series, it is quite obvious that the new project will once again be set in the present day.

These could be the first stars

Official details have not yet been released. However, the first three stars have been found. Brian Posehn, Lauren Lapkus, and Kevin Sussman are to take on the leading roles, slipping back into their familiar roles from Big Bang.

Sussman is the best-known actor. From the beginning of the second season of The Big Bang Theory to the final episode, he played comic book salesman Stuart in more than 80 episodes. As such, he briefly dated Penny (Kaley Cuoco), entered into an unhealthy caring relationship with Howard’s (Simon Helberg) mother, and ultimately found true love after all: Denise.

She was played by Lapkus and is also a big comic fan. Over the course of the eight episodes in which she appears, she takes on a job in Stuart’s store. The trio is rounded off by Posehn, who played the strange geologist Bert in 15 episodes.

Project status still up in the air

There is also a well-known name behind the scenes. The Big Bang Theory co-creator Chuck Lorre is to drive the series forward as executive producer. Whether this will actually be realized, however, is not entirely certain at the moment.

Officially, there is no green light yet. In addition, the three stars are currently still contractually tied to other projects. Considering this, it may be a while before production begins on the new title.
