“Squid Game” is the most successful Netflix series of all time. This means that the South Korean series is also outperforming blockbuster productions such as “Wednesday,” “Bridgerton,” and “Stranger Things.” Even before the start of the 2nd season, it was, therefore, clear that a final 3rd season would be coming. TECHBOOK summarizes what is already known about it.
In the fall of 2021, Netflix landed an absolute coup with Squid Game. The South Korean series about deadly children’s games and social inequality went straight to number one in the streaming charts and could not be displaced for weeks. And with 265.2 million views and 2.2 billion hours streamed, it is still there. This makes the production more successful than any other Netflix series. However, fans had to wait more than three years for season 2; the new episodes were released on December 26, 2024. Netflix has already announced that Squid Game will also have a third season to conclude the series. What is already known about the finale?

Everything You Need to Know About “Squid Game” Season 3 at a Glance
- Squid Game season 3 will be released on Netflix sometime during 2025.
- Season 3 will also be the last of the successful series.
- The storyline about the deadly games in South Korea comes to a conclusion. It all comes down to a confrontation between the two protagonists, Gi-hun and In-ho, aka the Frontman. However, the conflict between the two Hwang brothers should also be exciting.
When Is “Squid Game” Season 3 Coming to Netflix?
An exact start date for the final episodes has not yet been set. However, Netflix has already announced that Squid Game season 3 will not be as long in coming as season 2. Filming has apparently already been completed. According to Netflix, it is aiming for a release in the course of 2025.
The earliest possible date seems to be in spring. According to experts, however, it is more likely that Squid Game season 3 will be launched in fall 2025. Netflix may also delay the release until Christmas and release the finale a year after season 2.
This Is What the Final Episodes Are About
As season 3 is also set to be the last of the series, viewers can expect a grand finale. Season 1 introduced the world of games. Season 2 then focused even more on the dynamics within the group of players – beware, some spoilers about the plot so far follow here.
Gi-hun and the Frontman
One of the reasons for this was the change in the power imbalance between the players. On the one hand, this is due to the two returnees, Gi-hun and the Frontman. Both are former winners of the games, but they return to the ring with completely different motives. Gi-hun wants to end the games. The Frontman, on the other hand, apparently wants to convince him that they are justified. This conflict, which protagonist Gi-hun is now finally aware of, is likely to be a key to the plot of Squid Game season 3.
This is also suggested by an open letter from series creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. His statement reads, among other things: “The violent clash of their two worlds will continue in season 3 – the series finale premiering next year.”
What’s Next for the Games?
Secondly, there was a significant change to the rules of the games in season 2. After each round, the participants were able to decide whether they wanted to stop the games and go home with the shared winnings or whether they wanted to continue the games. This has already resulted in some exciting dynamics. Season 3 could now once again follow the motto that many of the participants have adopted: “One more game and then it’s over!”
It will also be exciting to see how the series continues with the games in general. At the end of season 2, Gi-hun instigates an uprising, but it is bloodily put down. What does this do to the protagonist and the further course of the game?
In contrast to the jump between seasons 1 and 2, the final season will now follow more directly from the events. In the series, just like in reality, three years have passed before Gi-hun returns. Since Netflix has already announced that Squid Game season 3 will start in 2025, it is to be expected that this will once again set a real time frame.
