In 2022, few series were as successful as the Addams Family spin-off Wednesday. The series was a complete success, especially for the producing streaming service Netflix. It even achieved the platform’s best start to date. And even beyond the streaming cosmos, the production, with its extravagant main character, played by Jenna Ortega, triggered a real hype. Thus, it quickly became apparent that Wednesday would have a second season. But what’s next for Wednesday, her friends and, of course, her family? TECHBOOK presents all the information and rumors about the series.

When is “Wednesday” season 2 coming?

First things first: There will definitely be a second season of Wednesday. Netflix officially announced this in a video message with lead actress Jenna Ortega. In the short clip, Netflix also alludes to the enormous success of season 1 – all slightly ironic and with a wink.

However, an exact start date for Wednesday season 2 has not yet been set. There is usually about a year between two seasons on Netflix. However, as the production is likely to be quite complex and the scriptwriters’ strike caused delays, we can probably only expect the sequel in 2025.

What to expect in “Wednesday” season 2

Not much is yet known about the plot of season 2. By and large, the important storylines of the first season of Wednesday have been completed, although we are, of course, still keen to find out who the stalker that was teased in the finale is. Showrunners Miles Millar and Al Gough have also spoken about their personal plans for the series. Depending on how much freedom Netflix gives them, some elements of this could actually be seen in the new season.

Among other things, the two want to give the Addams Family itself more space and accordingly put Wednesday’s family more at the center. This should also please fans who would like to see more Morticia and co. appearances in the series. This fits in with the sparse information that Netflix announced during the Tudum fan event. There, the cast revealed that a new member of the Addams Family will appear in season 2 – although it is not yet known who it will be.

Also – spoiler alert! – Monster Tyler will return for Wednesday season 2. As Jenna Ortega says in the video half-jokingly – but also with a considerable amount of seriousness – Tyler could be a kind of pet for Wednesday. The return of Professor Weems (Gwendolin Christie) also seems more likely than ever after the Tudum video. For a shapeshifter like her, there are certainly ways and means to survive a potentially fatal stabbing. Other topics could include Bianca’s continuing story or how Enid deals with her powers.

In a short video, Netflix provides a behind-the-scenes look at the production of season 2, featuring some familiar faces, such as Wednesday’s family and classmates. At the same time, however, it is also revealed that the new season is set to be more powerful and insane than you can imagine.

The cast of the “Wednesday” sequel

As mentioned, the majority of the cast are returning to their familiar roles. One exception is Percy Hynes-White, who will not be appearing in the sequel. Allegations of sexual harassment were made against the actor on social media in 2023. In Wednesday, Hynes-White played the role of Xavier, a classmate who is also psychic and artistically gifted. There is currently no information on whether the role will be recast.

  • Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams – teenager with psychic abilities and a strong tendency towards morbidity
  • Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair – young werewolf and Wednesday’s roommate at Nevermore Academy
  • Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams – Wednesday’s mother
  • Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley Addams – Wednesday’s little brother
  • Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams – Wednesday’s father
  • Jamie McShane as Donovan Galpin – Sheriff of Jericho and Tyler’s father
  • Hunter Doohan as Tyler Galpin – son of the sheriff, inherited the Hyde gene from his mother
  • Moosa Mostefa as Eugene Otinger – president of the Nevermore Beekeepers’ Club, Wednesday’s classmate
  • Joy Sunday as Bianca Barclay – a siren and popular student at Nevermore Academy
  • Georgie Farmer as Ajax Petropolus – Gorgon and friend of Enid

Some new additions for Wednesday season 2 have also already been announced.

  • Steve Buscemi as Barry Dort
  • Billie Piper as Capri
  • Evie Templeton
  • Owen Painter
  • Noah Taylor
  • Lady Gaga

A number of guest appearances have also already been confirmed. For example, Addams Family veteran Christopher Lloyd is returning. They are joined by well-known stars such as Frances O’Connor and Joonas Suotama. According to reports from Entertainment Weekly, it was also recently announced that singer Lady Gaga will make an appearance in the series. Ortega herself revealed at the Golden Globes in January 2023 that she would like Gaga to appear in the second season of the series. She even sketched out a possible plot for Mother Monster.

“I’m sure Netflix would love that,” Ortega said at the time. “I think Mrs. Thornhill and Wednesday had this weird mentoring relationship or kind of got along in a certain way. So if Lady Gaga were to be in it, I think it would have to be two monsters who get along.” So far, however, no further information is known about exactly what role Gaga will play and how big it will be.

More on the topic

Jenna Ortega has repeatedly voiced criticism

After season 1, lead actress Jenna Ortega proved to be the harshest critic of the Wednesday series. It is unusual, to say the least, for actors to make such negative comments about an ongoing production in which they are involved. Ortega’s criticism essentially relates to the fact that the original was not handled properly. Among her critiques, she points out that the series lacks sufficient darkness and that elements like the love triangle between Wednesday, Tyler, and Xavier fail to do justice to the character. She also repeatedly reported difficult conditions on set. For example, she had to shoot the almost legendary ballroom scene with Corona.

Apparently, Netflix has taken various criticism points from Ortega to heart. For Wednesday season 2, the streaming service has also listed its leading actress as a producer. In this role, she can have much more influence on the series as a whole.
