Series are popular, especially historical series, as shown by “Bridgerton” and “The Crown.” Now Netflix is also planning a series based on “Pride and Prejudice.”
With the recent advent of streaming services, the series format has also become increasingly important. The various providers are now trying to come up with new in-house productions to keep users happy and attract new customers. Various genres are used, with historical material proving to be very popular. So it should come as no surprise that, after The Crown and Bridgerton, Netflix is now also set to produce a series based on Pride and Prejudice.
Netflix wants to turn “Pride and Prejudice” into a series
This is according to a new report in the US industry magazine Variety. According to the report, a series based on Pride and Prejudice is currently being developed by Netflix. In this context, “development” also indicates that the project is still at a very early planning stage.
Accordingly, not much information is known so far. It is not yet clear who will take on the well-known roles of Elizabeth Bennet or Mr. Darcy. And Netflix has not yet officially given the green light for production.
Dolly Alderton takes over the reins of “Pride and Prejudice”
There is already at least one personnel announcement: British author Dolly Alderton is to contribute the scripts for the series. Alderton made a name for herself in 2018 with her book Everything I Know About Love. She is also currently one of the most successful authors on the island.
Pride and Prejudice is probably Jane Austen’s best-known novel, first published in 1813. Since then, it has been adapted several times, including repeatedly as a mini-series for television and as a movie. The 2005 movie starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen is particularly well known and was nominated for 4 Oscars at the time, including one for Knightley as Best Actress in a Leading Role.

In addition, costume films and series such as Bridgerton are very popular with streaming audiences – and Pride and Prejudice will be in exactly the same vein.
