Apple has surprisingly released the iPhone update iOS 18.1.1, after all. TECHBOOK reveals what’s in it and whether users should install it straight away.
Apple is already working at full speed on its next major update iOS 18.2. Beta versions already show some new features. A rollout is expected at the beginning of December. This is why the news that Apple has now delayed the update to iOS 18.1.1 is a little surprising, especially since the rollout of iOS 18.1 was three weeks ago. TECHBOOK has taken a closer look at the update.
Apple releases iOS 18.1.1
The update notes from Apple are quite brief. The company only writes that iOS 18.1.1 contains important security updates. Installation is strongly recommended. Due to the timing of the release, it can be assumed that these could be critical security vulnerabilities. Otherwise, Apple would probably have waited until the release of iOS 18.2.
According to Apple, the vulnerabilities relate to WebKit, the basis of Safari, and JavaScriptCore. Without the security update, the vulnerability could be exploited by attackers to install their own program code on the user’s device. The Google Threat Analysis Group pointed out the acute danger in advance. According to Apple, the vulnerabilities have already been actively exploited.
Nothing is yet known about new functions within iOS 18.1.1. It appears to be purely a security update.

In addition to the iPhone update to iOS 18.1.1, Apple is also rolling out corresponding versions for its other devices. iPadOS 18.1.1 and macOS 15.1.1 were released simultaneously; only watchOS 11.1.1 and tvOS seem to be not represented so far.
To initiate the update manually, go to your iPhone settings. Under “General,” you will find the “Software update” tab and the versions that are currently available.
