Whether emoticons or emojis, many digital conversations are barely complete without small graphic aids. The latter are particularly popular on the internet and on smartphones and include a whole range of small images to give texts more context or emphasis – if the communication does not already consist exclusively of them. Now, new emojis are on the way for 2025 and are suitable for various topics.
These Are the New Emojis for 2025
The Unicode Consortium is responsible for the development of Unicode. This is a global standard designed to ensure that texts can be used in digital form in all relevant writing systems. In addition to pure text characters, other symbols are also finding their way onto devices. New emojis will be added in 2025. The latest wave was announced by those responsible in the fall of 2024.
Even back then, a final release was announced for the first quarter of 2025. Users can then look forward to a total of eight new images for use in chats on WhatsApp and Co.
The new selection consists of a face with bags under the eyes, beet, a fingerprint, a bare tree, a harp, a splash of paint, and the flag of the island of Sark.
The tree emoji, in particular, is designed to highlight an important issue. It can represent various concepts, especially when used in conjunction with other emojis. Primarily, it symbolizes climate change, recurring droughts, and the ‘collapsing environment.’ This is what Brian Baihaki wrote in his emoji application to the Unicode Consortium.

The Next Emojis Are Already Waiting
While the first new emojis will be released early in 2025, there is already a list of other successors. These will only be officially announced with the release of Unicode 17.0. The annual update usually comes in September.
However, the Unicode Consortium has already provided an insight into future new emojis for 2025, including: distorted face, “battle cloud”, people wrestling, people with rabbit ears, ballet dancer, nibbled apple, orca, hairy creature/bigfoot, trombone, landslide and treasure chest with gold.
