Apple will present its new iPhone generation in the fall of 2025. The new models will probably include a completely new one: the iPhone 17 Air. This could not only establish a new concept in Apple’s smartphone sector but also break with the familiar design.
The unveiling of the next iPhone is still some time off, with Apple traditionally showcasing its devices in September. But there is already a whole range of information and rumors. The iPhone 17 Air is garnering particular interest. This is set to replace the previous Plus model and will be the thinnest iPhone to date. However, this might not be the only striking innovation. The latest render images show a design that Apple is set to introduce with the iPhone 17 Air. The back, in particular, is very reminiscent of the Pixel 9 from Google.
Apple Could Completely Change the Design of the Back of Its iPhone
New images of the iPhone 17 Pro (Max) emerged last week. These are based on previously published CAD sketches and provide a first impression of what Apple’s upcoming premium smartphone could look like. The main topic of discussion was the back of the phone, or more precisely, the camera design. Instead of a square elevation for the camera, the images show a wide, horizontal attachment.
As with previous models, the camera remains positioned on the left-hand side. The triangular arrangement of the lenses has not changed either. Instead, the flash and microphone have been moved to the right-hand side of the elevation. This also differs in color from the rest of the back.
Is the Design of the iPhone 17 Air Inspired by Google?
The design should look familiar to smartphone fans. After all, it is already used prominently on the Google Pixel 9 (Pro). This is also a fact that would make the design change noteworthy. After all, Apple has been known for its very individual design decisions for years.
The US company has been setting standards in the smartphone, laptop, and headphone sectors for years. It’s quite unusual for Apple to potentially adopt another manufacturer’s look for its iPhones, but there could be practical reasons behind this decision. This design change could potentially address one of the issues found in previous iPhone models.
Without a protective case, they sometimes wobble noticeably when laid on their back. The reason for this is the aforementioned camera attachment, which only provides an elevation on one side. However, this is not a problem exclusive to Apple.

What Is the Truth Behind the Rumors About the Design of the iPhone 17 Air?
As usual, such render images should be treated with caution. In this case, like the images of the iPhone 17 Pro, they come from Jon Prosser. The CAD drawings circulated in January come from Majin Bu. Both names are well-known in the industry. If the design for the Pro models is confirmed, the design step for the iPhone 17 Air seems only logical. After all, this would mean that Apple would be opting for a uniform look in its 17 series. However, there are no corresponding images of the iPhone 17 as yet.
However, it’s worth noting that both Prosser and Majin Bu have previously made inaccurate predictions. From a purely visual point of view, there are also some fans who don’t like the design at all and would like Apple to stick to the tried and tested.
Nonetheless, a compelling argument for the design is its practicality. In addition to the aforementioned tilt stop, the wide bar would also provide space for new components on the back. This could be very exciting for Apple in the future.
