A new beta for iOS 18 includes a function that solves a well-known problem: the sound during video recordings.
Whenever a major system update for the iPhone is announced, the excitement within the fan community increases. In addition to the usual improvements to performance and security, you can always expect exciting new functions. A particularly useful change has now appeared in a new beta for iOS 18.
New beta of iOS 18 allows sound during video recording
Nowadays, it is taken for granted that smartphones can take photos and record videos. This has been possible with Apple devices since the iPhone 3GS was released in 2009. Since then, owners have been able to spontaneously capture moments in the form of short films – with one annoying drawback.
Whenever you start recording, this interrupts any audio playback that has been taking place on the cell phone up to that point. So if you are listening to music and want to film something on the side, you have to make do with a moment of silence. If you also wanted to use the music from your cell phone as background music for the video itself, you couldn’t do this easily either.
However, as reported by “MacRumors” and others, this problem could soon be a thing of the past. In a new beta for iOS 18, there is now an option to keep audio playback running while recording a video. If you want to use the sound directly for the video and use the iPhone speaker for this, you can also do this. However, you will have to make do with a mono and not a stereo recording.

Use the emergency solution for sound in videos now
The feature in the current beta for iOS 18 is new for the camera’s designated video recording function. However, an alternative solution to the problem has existed since iPhone 11.
However, users do not use this with the video function but with the photo function of the respective iPhone. If you hold down the shutter button, you can record short films in this mode without interrupting the sound. However, the results achieved are of significantly lower quality. For this reason, video enthusiasts should wait for the official release of iOS 18.
It can be assumed that Apple will maintain the previously known release cycle for the upcoming update. In this case, iPhone owners can expect the update in September and, with it, many new features in iOS 18.
