2025 will be an exciting year for Apple fans and the company itself. The tech giant is apparently planning to launch more than 20 new products on the market. TECHBOOK provides an overview and assesses the products.
The year 2024 was all about Apple’s in-house AI: Apple Intelligence. This was officially unveiled at the WWDC – Worldwide Developers Conference – in June and has been the company’s focus ever since. In 2025, however, Apple will once again focus more on new products. Among others, the well-known Bloomberg reporter and industry insider Mark Gurman discusses this in his latest newsletter.
Overview
New iPhone Generation – and a New SE Model?
Apple traditionally presents its new smartphones at the big keynote in the fall. The new generation is expected to center around the iPhone 17. In addition to the basic model, this will almost certainly include the iPhone 17 Pro and the 17 Pro Max. However, there are a lot of rumors surrounding the fourth device. Apparently, Apple wants to change its concept and launch the iPhone 17 Air instead of the Plus device of previous years. This model is anticipated to be exceptionally slim, aligning with the design ethos of its counterparts in other Apple product lines.
In addition, Apple is expected to introduce a new iPhone SE in 2025. The next device in the series would be the SE 4, although Apple typically names the devices after the corresponding year rather than using a numerical sequence. There is also a rumor that the company wants to move away from the name “SE” altogether. Instead, the name ‘iPhone 16E’ is under consideration. In this context, the ‘E’ could signify ‘Economy,’ representing affordability, a hallmark of the SE series.
Apple Brings its AI to Europe in 2025
In addition to the new iPhones, 2025 is also an important year for Apple in terms of the operating system. Due to EU regulations, users in Europe have not yet been able to access the AI features introduced with iOS 18. Recent sales figures suggest that Apple Intelligence has not been a significant factor for most users. However, the European market’s exclusion from these functions may also have contributed to this perception.
Apple Intelligence is set to be introduced with iOS 18.4. The update is expected to be implemented in April 2025. Before that, however, iOS 18.3 will be released. Software enthusiasts eagerly anticipate the annual WWDC, which is slated to occur in June 2025. Apple will definitely provide the first insights into iOS 19 then. The same applies to the new OS versions for iPad, Mac, Apple TV, and Apple Watches. Among various updates, there is speculation that Siri may evolve into a chatbot.
New Smartwatches Expected in Every Segment
2025 could also be an important year for Apple’s smartwatch segment. Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman expects a redesign for the Apple Watch SE, among other things. In addition, both the Apple Watch 11 and the Watch Ultra 3 are expected, with the latter likely to include a satellite connection.
Both smartwatches could also receive a feature that was already expected for the Watch 10: Blood pressure measurement. According to rumors, Apple also wants to work more with artificial intelligence. Among other things, an AI-based trainer is apparently planned.
iPad 11 with More Power
Apple is also expected to unveil a new iPad 11 in spring 2025. However, the leap will probably not be too big. The tablet will presumably be given more power to keep pace with the AI functions. This would require both a new chip and more RAM.
Apple is Probably Planning a Big Step in the Smart Home in 2025
2025 will apparently be particularly exciting for Apple’s smart home sector. In recent years, the company has been conspicuously defensive in this area. At the beginning of 2023, the company presented its 2nd generation HomePod. However, it offered few new features compared to its predecessor. This is expected to change in 2025.
According to consistent reports, Apple is working on an extensive redesign or even a completely new HomePod, which could then act as a full hub. This is said to have a 6-inch display and Apple Intelligence directly on board. The advantages of Apple AI could come into play in the smart home sector in particular. This includes, among other things, a more intelligent Siri voice assistant. However, the device will probably not be launched on the market until fall 2025.
A new HomePod mini is also rumored to be in the works – something fans have been wanting for a long time. Apple has repeatedly made minor changes. However, the company has not made any significant changes, suggesting that the 2020-released product is due for a performance upgrade. Rumor has it that Apple is also working on its own security camera.
MacBook Air and Mac Studio
As with the tablets, Apple has already updated its Laptop Pro models, but the Air series is still missing. The devices hit the market in October 2024, featuring increased RAM. However, the upgrade to the newer M4 chip is still missing. Apple could change this in the course of 2025. The chip is crucial for leveraging the company’s new AI capabilities to the fullest extent. A corresponding step is expected in March 2025.
The same also applies to the Mac Studio. Experts anticipate the upgrade to occur no earlier than May. The Mac Pro is apparently not even due until the fall, as industry insider Mark Gurman suspects.
New Chip Required iPhone 17 Air Will Be Incredibly Expensive for Apple – and Therefore for Customers Too
Update coming soon Hardly any iPhones are ready for iOS 18
Due to new product launches Apple could soon remove several devices from its store
Other Apple Products Expected for 2025
In addition to these major product segments, there are apparently even more Apple devices coming onto the market in 2025. Two new Magic Keyboards are planned in the tablet segment, for example. Specifically, these are the R307 and R308 models.
Gurman has also mentioned new AirTags several times. According to his information, these will be released toward the summer of 2025. Among other things, the AirTags 2 should have an increased range. Thanks to a new chip, there is also talk of improved accuracy.
The Apple TV is also set to receive a minor upgrade. Despite being somewhat overlooked in recent years, the TV box continues to maintain a degree of popularity.
