When the lighting reflects the scenes shown on the TV, it creates a special TV experience. This is exactly what the Philips Hue system has been offering for several years with the Sync function. Originally implemented via a box, it has since become available to Samsung TVs via an app. Now, it is also available for LG televisions.

The Philips Hue Sync TV app from manufacturer Signify is now available for LG televisions. It allows users to synchronize their Hue lighting with screen content in real time and enjoy a more immersive home entertainment experience. It can be purchased as a one-time purchase or as a subscription for up to three devices.

Philips Hue Sync TV App Now Also on LG TVs

Following Samsung, LG TVs now also have access to the Philips Hue Sync TV app. The prerequisite for use is an LG TV with webOS 24 or higher. The app makes it possible to synchronize smart Hue lamps directly with the TV’s screen content without the need for additional hardware. The Hue Sync TV app can be used with various input sources such as streaming apps, set-top boxes, or game consoles and supports formats such as 8K, 4K, HDR10, and Dolby Vision.

The new app has been specially optimized for LG smart TVs and is designed to provide an immersive TV experience. Thanks to a special algorithm, the lighting adapts to what is happening on the TV in real-time. Users can select different modes, including video and game modes, and individually adjust the intensity of the lighting effects.

Supported LG Models and Availability

One caveat is that Signify only provides the app for current Smart TV models. It is compatible with all LG televisions from model year 2024 onwards, provided they have the webOS24 operating system or newer. If you have such a model, the application can be downloaded via the LG Content Store.

However, using the Philips Hue Sync TV app is not free of charge. It can be purchased for a one-time fee of 129.99 euros or as a subscription. The subscription option is available for 2.99 euros per month and covers up to three devices.

Unlike the HDMI sync box introduced by Signify in 2019, which received an 8K upgrade in 2024, the app also works with internal TV apps like Netflix or Disney+. Users who previously had to rely on external solutions now have a more convenient alternative directly on their smart TVs.

More on the topic

Philips Hue Pushes More Strongly into the Smart TV Segment

With Samsung and LG, Signify supplies the two largest TV manufacturers on the market. The release of the Philips Hue Sync TV app underlines the company’s strategy of becoming even more integrated into the smart home ecosystem in the future. Other TV manufacturers could also be supported in the future, although details are not yet available.

The company launched its first app for Samsung TVs at the beginning of 2023, marking a two-year period before its expansion to LG TVs. Experts nevertheless see the market expansion as an important step towards counteracting the growing competition from providers such as Nanoleaf and Govee.
