The indie area at Gamescom has long since ceased to be an insider secret. This is where the smaller studios present their often very lovingly designed titles in close proximity. The line-up for this year has already been confirmed.
Numerous major studios will once again be at Gamescom 2024. Apart from that, however, many are also interested in the somewhat smaller providers who present their titles in the Indie Area. However, the days when you could stroll from stand to stand are over, as the crowds are now usually too big. That’s why TECHBOOK is providing an overview of the games in the Indie Arena Booth and the Home of Indies 2024 in advance.
What is the Indie Area?
Anyone with a passion for indie games should definitely visit the Indie Area at Gamescom 2024. As in the film sector, indie stands for independent and, therefore, primarily includes titles with a significantly lower budget than the big AAA games.
They are often backed by very small studios with just a few employees. However, indie games also have a reputation for being lovingly designed and rich in detail and offering completely new approaches outside the mainstream, while, of course, often being significantly less extensive than the expensive titles from major studios. Another special feature of the Gamescom area is that the developers are usually also in charge of the exhibition stands. The event, therefore, offers fans the opportunity to talk to the creators in person.
With the Indie Area at Gamescom, there is a separate area for such video games, and it has been for several years. This consists of the Indie Arena Booth and the Home of Indies and can be found in Hall 10.2 at Gamescom 2024.

These games are worthwhile
Once again, several hundred indie games will be available throughout Gamescom. The Indie Arena Booth alone offers 160 titles, which were presented in advance in a teaser.
TECHBOOK was already on site and took a closer look at the Indie Area at Gamescom 2024. Some titles, such as Farewell North or Pioneers of Pagonia are, of course, already known but still worth a visit. Other games will be there for the first time. Due to the enormous variety, also in terms of genre, everyone who takes their time and is willing to accept a certain waiting time will find what they are looking for. The queues are always shorter than in the other exhibition halls with larger stands. We have compiled a few highlights from our editorial team so that you don’t lose track when visiting the Indie Area, which is usually very busy.
