In a few days, Sony will launch its new PlayStation 5 Pro on the market. However, a new leak has answered some questions regarding the console’s graphics performance that were until now unanswered.

Several weeks have passed since the official unveiling of the PlayStation 5 Pro on September 10. At that time, Mark Cerny, the lead engineer, presented the design of the console and gave a first visual impression of what the gaming experience would ultimately look like. Since then, however, Sony has held back on details about its new high-priced PlayStation. Now, however, a photo of the original security manual has been published. TECHBOOK has taken a close look at the data.

Leak publishes manual for the PlayStation 5 Pro

Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro have been open since the end of September, with the official release set for November 7. However, if you want to buy the new console, you will have to pay a hefty price. The new PlayStation is priced at 800 euros, not including a drive or a stand. Adding both the drive and the stand will cost an extra 150 euros. Sony justifies the price by citing a significant increase in graphics performance, among other enhancements. So far, however, there has been a lack of concrete data on this, including the components installed.

There has been virtually no information on the GPU (Graphics Processing Unit), for example. However, this has changed because early retailers and pre-order buyers have received the new hardware. Consequently, the recently leaked information seems to be quite reliable.

Improved graphics with the same processor

To begin with, the previous rumors regarding the PlayStation 5 Pro’s GPU have been largely confirmed. Compared to the normal PS5, the new console with its 16.7 teraFLOPS delivers a 62 percent increase in performance – the basic model “only” delivers 10.28 teraFLOPS. Through dual-issue calculations, there’s theoretical potential to double the performance to 33.4 teraFLOPS.

As already suspected, the CPU (Central Processing Unit) remains untouched. As with the PlayStation 5, the Pro model uses the AMD Zen 2 processor with 8 cores and 16 threads. The chip was released in 2019, which experts criticized early on. Despite the console’s corresponding graphics performance, computationally intensive games cannot achieve the advertised 60 fps (frames per second) due to the processor.

PS5 Pro with more RAM and less weight

On the other hand, the RAM has been upgraded, with an additional 2 GB DDR5 RAM added to the 16 GB GDDR6. According to the magazine Playfront, however, this is mainly used for the operating system. It was already confirmed that a 2 TB SSD will be used. There is new information on the connections and power consumption. The latter is stated to peak at up to 390 watts, which is an increase of 40 watts.

The leak also confirms that the PS5 Pro comes with two USB-A and two USB-C ports. Unsurprisingly, there is also an HDMI and an RJ45 port. More surprising is the weight. Despite its larger size, the PlayStation 5 Pro reportedly weighs just 3.1 kg. Although this is the weight without the drive, the Digital Edition of the PS5, which also comes without a drive, still weighs 3.4 kg.
