The Gamescom event is set to return to Cologne from August 21 to 25, 2024. The event has been running since 2002, but back then, it was still known as the Games Convention. This year, the event will expand its focus beyond digital games to include a broader range of gaming concepts. Consequently, expectations for Gamescom 2024 are sky-high, and TECHBOOK is here to present some of the anticipated highlights.

What you should know about Gamescom 2024 in advance

On the evening of August 20, the Opening Night Live will herald the start of the trade fair as usual. On August 21, Gamescom will open its doors to trade visitors and a few other selected people before it gets going on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

As always, visitors can expect a colorful mix of stands and stages in the exhibition halls. In the Indie Area, smaller independent studios, in particular, will be presenting their titles, while old console games can be tested in the Retro Area. The Cosplay Village is also popular, right next to the merchandise area, where there is plenty to see, especially towards the weekend. This also applies to the Signing Area, where some well-known faces from the scene are expected again this year.

The Cards & Boards Area, on the other hand, is completely new at Gamescom 2024. Non-digital games will also be presented there for the first time. As Germany is considered a stronghold for board games, among other things, there is much to be expected from the new area. Ravensburger, Konami, Ulisses Spiele, and the Pokémon Company are already known to be exhibiting there.

The exhibitors at Gamescom 2024

Despite notable cancellations from Sony and Nintendo, many well-known names from the industry will once again be present at Gamescom 2024.
