Leaks about the upcoming Sony console have been accumulating over the past few weeks. It is now almost certain that it is the PlayStation 5 Pro – a new leak now supports this.

The leaked information relates to the name and design of the upcoming console. Unsurprisingly, this further cements the assumption that we can expect a PlayStation 5 Pro this year. More interesting is the information on the design of the device. TECHBOOK assesses the leak.

PlayStation 5 Pro as good as confirmed

The new information comes from the French magazine “Delabs,” on whose website new images of the PS5 Pro can be viewed. In the past, the portal has already made a name for itself with accurate previews. Apparently, the publication has an image of the front of the new PlayStation packaging from an exclusive source. Due to copyright, “Delabs” has produced its own graphic instead of showing the image itself. But you still get a pretty good impression.

What is also clearly recognizable is the lettering under the drawing: PS5 Pro. This confirms the numerous rumors and expert assessments of the past weeks and months. The next Sony console will be the PlayStation 5 Pro. Sony is thus following the path already taken with the previous generation. The project name, however, is “Trinity.”

Design of the PlayStation 5 Pro is reminiscent of the Slim model

Its design is much more interesting than the apparently confirmed name of the console. Despite its rather sketchy character, the image shows some details that – if what is shown is true – are strongly reminiscent of the PS5 Slim. According to the source, the casing will again be white over a large area. In the middle, black strips provide a division.

However, according to the image, this is wider than on the Slim because it consists of three strips instead of one. This suggests that Sony is using the same side panels as the Slim version. If the dimensions also match, which Deadlabs also assumes, parts of the Slim could be reused for the PS5 Pro. Overall, the upcoming console is expected to be slightly thicker, partly due to the higher performance inside.

In addition to the visual harmonization, this could also have a practical effect. The removable drive of the PS5 Slim could possibly be compatible with the PlayStation 5 Pro. The graphic does not show a drive at all. However, it is extremely unlikely that Sony will launch its flagship console exclusively as a digital version. However, whether the Japanese company will opt for a version with and without a drive is unknown, as it did with the PS5.

More on the topic

PS5 Pro could arrive as early as November

According to the design leak, the PlayStation 5 Pro will have two USB ports on the front at the narrower lower end. The power button will also be located at the front.

In addition, it appears the PlayStation 5 Pro will be shipped with a DualSense controller on release. We can only speculate as to the reasons why the premium model, the DualSense Edge, is not being used. However, as it still costs more than 200 euros, the cost factor is probably decisive. There are already reports that the new console will also be significantly more expensive than its predecessors.

Incidentally, there are also increasing rumors that the PlayStation 5 Pro will be launched in November. Perhaps we will get more clarity on this at the end of September when Sony holds its expected State of Play.
